HMSTR is the native currency of the viral clicker game and Telegram mini-app, Hamster Kombat. Launched during early 2024 on the TON ecosystem, Hamster Kombat is a free-to-play tycoon game that tasks players with managing a virtual crypto exchange run by hamsters. Players earn HMSTR tokens through the game's tap-to-earn mechanism, and also gain additional tokens by completing daily minigames and tasks. The HMSTR tokens players earn can be used to upgrade their virtual exchange, allowing them to increase their profit per hour and unlock new features.
In its project whitepaper, the Hamster Kombat project team has big plans for HMSTR beyond the Telegram mini-app. The token will reportedly be developed by the Hamster Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims to onboard the next billion people to Web3 and develop the HMSTR ecosystem in a sustainable way.
How does HMSTR work?
Being built and based on TON and Telegram, Hamster Kombat uses TON's Proof of Stake consensus mechanism. However, the project has yet to announce plans for HMSTR staking or security as part of the token's future utility.
The Hamster Kombat roadmap includes plans for an upcoming HMSTR airdrop and HMSTR token generation event (TGE) to reward players for their loyalty to the game. The project team has already stated how an airdrop would be allocated to players based on their involvement with the mini-app. This includes players' profit per hour, the amount of keys collected, and the total number of achievements unlocked. The airdrop will also consider the 'earn' tasks players have completed, such as watching Hamster Kombat's educational content on YouTube, and the number of referrals to the platform.
About the HMSTR founders
Despite its impressive rise and record-breaking success — being the largest Telegram channel to date with more than 52 million subscribers — Hamster Kombat's founders have chosen to remain anonymous. The project owners have reportedly declined requests from media to comment on the game and its notable success, choosing instead to focus on developing Hamster Kombat and its surrounding ecosystem.
